So, what is Myofunctional Therapy?

“The tongue is the CEO of the body.”

– Pat Pine, Muscles in Harmony

Myofunctional therapy is treatment of disordered functioning of the oral and facial muscles. When their function is not optimized, various problems can occur. Myofunctional Therapy addresses the following:

  • Sleep apnea/sleep issues
  • TMD
  • Tongue, lip, and buccal ties
  • Feeding difficulties
  • Thumb/pacifier sucking
  • Facial injury
  • Orthondontic/bite issues
  • Mouth breathing

Myofunctional therapy is a holistic approach that addresses appropriate rest posture, nasal breathing, toning of the orofacial muscles, chewing, and swallowing. The discipline works in conjunction with other health professionals including pediatricians, orthodontists, dentists, osteopaths, chiropractors, craniosacral therapists, lactation consultants, body workers, ENT’s, and more.
